What is the Turnaround Time? Turnaround times vary according to the type of repair and the workload. There are many possible factors which may affect the amount of time it takes to complete our services. We will do our best to work within your timeframe.
Do you give estimates? My rates are $30.00 per hour plus the cost of parts. For an accurate estimate I must personally inspect the instrument. Do you give appraisals? If you are in the North Texas area, I'll be happy to provide an appraisal of your instrument. We can provide wholesale appraisals (what a store will pay for an instrument), insurance appraisals (replacement value), and retail appraisals (what the going market is if you are looking to sell your instrument). We don't provide appraisals through photos and descriptions. In order to provide an accurate appraisal, I prefer to hold the instrument and personally inspect it. I feel it would be a disservice to you to try to "guesstimate" the value without looking it over in person. Certificate of Appraisal providedfor each appraisal performed. $35.00 per instrument. What are your Hours of Operation? By Appointment Only. For a service appointment, please call or email me.
How do I contact DFW Guitars? Email me at dave@dfwguitars.com or call me at 972-689-0483.
Do I need a setup? Set-up work is a series of adjustments that should be performed at least once a year on every guitar. Very few manufacturers take the time to properly set-up a new guitar before it is shipped. Whether you’ve purchased a new or used instrument, a set-up should be performed to your specific preferences. When an instrument is set-up properly, the playability and tone of the guitar will be improved. If your instrument has been altered in any way, a set-up should be performed. For instance, if you change string gauge, or install a new saddle or nut.
Can you tell me if a repair is worth doing to my guitar? Once I inspect your instrument, I can determine what repairs are necessary, provide an estimate of the cost and an approximate turn-around time. You have to decide if it’s worth it. All estimates are free of charge.
The action (string height) on my guitar is really high, what can be done to fix it? It should be properly set-up. Give me a call or email me and let’s discuss your requirements.
Why won’t my guitar stay in tune? There are many reasons why a guitar won’t stay in tune. The intonation could be off and needs to be set properly; the strings could be old, cheaply made or not installed properly; the tuners may be worn out or cheaply made. These are just a few reasons why your guitar won’t stay in tune. I will be happy to inspect your instrument and give you an estimate (free of charge) of what it would require to fix the problem.
Do you work on instruments other than guitars? Yes, I work on most stringed instruments and have performed repairs on everything from auto-harps to xylophones.
So… you want to buy a guitar? Whether you are buying your first guitar, your next guitar, or a gift for someone special, any level of player, beginner to professional, I can answer your questions and assist you in making a knowledgeable and practical decision about your purchase. |
